Expressionism

Expressionism, says Darren Anderson, author of Imaginary Cities, is a style that still inspires. In this wide-ranging and generous essay, he argues that the strangeness of much contemporary architecture is down to the Expressionists, for good and ill. Its capacity to generate extravagant forms inspires the city branders and architectural one-liners, its materiality excites the auteurs, its radical spirit goads the real visionaries.
