The five essays in this pamphlet tackle a range of topics relating to the appraisal of students’ work. All of them, however, assert the need to regain our critical faculties — to see ourselves as helpful, not toxic — and to embrace the fundamental judgement calls we must face when teaching and learning with informed discrimination.
